Bryan Smith comes to Bentley with 19 years of experience as a teacher, coach, mentor, advisor and, most recently, as Upper School Associate Director at the Lakeside School in Seattle, Washington. Bryan earned his B.A. in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his M.A. in educational leadership with a concentration in private school leadership from Columbia University's Teachers College. Bryan began his teaching career at the Hotchkiss School (Connecticut) where, in addition to teaching US and European history (grades 9-12), he supervised a dormitory, served as an advisor, and was assistant coach for junior varsity soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. At McCallie School (Chattanooga, TN) Bryan taught AP European history as well as senior electives, coached middle school lacrosse and basketball, and served as co-advisor of the discipline council from 2000 to 2008.
Bryan cares deeply about school culture and community. Along with excellence in teaching and learning, one of the many things that attracted Bryan to Bentley was our school's commitment to inclusivity. In his work at Lakeside, Bryan served on a team that planned and created the Global Online Academy in 2011. He also served as Interim Diversity Director in 2011, fostering Lakeside’s institutional commitment to inclusivity. We are pleased to welcome Bryan, with his wife Kendy and their son Henry, who will attend Bentley.
